Great place to stay, especially with a leash free beach a short walk away for the dogs. Excellent for a summer stay with many places to eat within 10min drive away. Good size yard for dogs and kids. Great effort by the owners. Would stay again.

Perfect weekend getaway for our family both the 2 legged and 4 legged kinds! John's list of local eateries and beach recommendations was brilliant - as was his great communication before and after our stay. The shack felt homely and relaxing from the moment we walked in the door!

The beach shack was very cosy and comfortable. Loved that linen was provided and beds had electric blankets plus very easy to clean-up when departing. The retro feel made it nostalgic for me and a huge novelty for the kids. We'll definitely be back John. Already recommended to many friends

Our second stay there and not our last.

This was such an interesting place to stay. The furnishings and decor are fantastic and everything you could ever need was provided. It was in a very quiet area but so very close to the beautiful beach. It's also close to shops and cafes. We would definitely stay again.

It was excellent! It was colder than expected when we stayed there but the shack had excellent heating and lots of things to do indoors on the colder days! It was so relaxing and comfortable, and we just loved how it was decorated. John was so efficient at responding to any questions we had. Thank you for an excellent time away

It was a great place to take our dogs for a few days away. They enjoyed the back garden with it's new smells and the space and emptiness of the beach.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.Very close to beaches and cafe etc.The shack and furnishings make you feel as though you've stepped back in time. Loved all the extras (movies, CD's board games) it made for a great weekend away. Would love to stay again.

John (the owner) was so helpful and a wealth of information. The shack was very comfortable and a great place to stay in the winter with wonderful heating and it was just so cosy; we are already planning our return. We really enjoyed all the games, books and movies that were on offer too!

If you are looking for a nice comfortable, affordable beach shack then this is it. It's definitely not pretentious but it is relaxing. It has everything you need in a beach shack. Don't let the first impression discourage you as this adds to the shacks overall charm. There are lots of books, videos, DVDs and the beach is close handy for strolling. The weather was great while we were there which always helps a holiday. The shack is close to the reef and so swimming is problematic there but the sandy beach area is not that far. It is well located close to beach, wineries and and the Flerieu Peninsular. Evidence of dogs in the area is a bit of a problem so watch you're step.

Has a lot of character, the retro tiles were the favourite. Has all the essentials. Good instructions and prompt communication from the owner.

Fantastic! 'does what it says on the box' Very authentic and packed with character. It is 'rough around the edges' but that is part of the charm. You can hear the waves from the shack. We spent a great weekend relaxing - and would recommend Aldinga Reef Retreat to anyone who is up for something a little different!

We loved it! The term "beach shack" truly describes Aldinga Reef. Nonetheless, the accommmodation was very comfortable with all the required amenities. A large, secure backyard for the kids or the dog. It was great being just a short walk away from the beach. We had family come to visit and they raved about it. If you aren't worried about ultra modern interiors (or exteriors!) and are just looking for somewhere to relax near the beach, Aldinga Reef provides excellent value for money. We highly recommend a stay there. Thanks for everything John.

If you don't mind your holiday accomodation a little 'rustic' around the edges, you will love the Reef Retreat. A charming place in a great location, and best of all - no rules! Just move in and enjoy. We felt welcome, yet free to do what we wanted and our dogs loved every second of the stay. The owner, John, is helpful, easily contactable, but not intrusive in any way. There's also a fab video and book collection. And then there's the beach (yes, literally a stone's throw away)...just go see for yourselves.

Had a fantastic time. The shack was exactly as advertised - no hidden suprises!! I enjoyed the privacy and big enclosed back yard, which Camilla (My little Cavalier) enjoyed. I was very impressed with the fact that there were no rules- just a map of local attractions and I was told to enjoy! Nearby facilities were excellent and it was great to be able to walk to beach (and drive on it - what a unique experience!!!) I would recommend the shack to anyone and we would definitely return. The air-conditioning was great when needed and the laundry facilities were very handy. The house is really big and loved the old kitchen - so much character! Loved McLaren Vale, which is only 17 kms away and also enjoyed trips to Victor Harbour, Goolwa and Strathalbyn. Did not have enough time to see everything there as I only had one week.

It was a gem. A genuine beach shack, with lots of relaxed character. It was clean and functional. A great location, so close to the beach and walking distance to beach Cafe's and Restaurant. Plenty of dvd's and books. A big, secure back yard for the dogs. We loved it and will go again. Geoff and Hazel.

It was wonderful to be able to go away and take my little dog. The location was good. Walks on the beach and close to eating places. Accommodation was basic but such a relief to be able to have somewhere to stay when one has a dog so that was okay. Toilet and shower all worked.
3/5 by Carole, SA - January 2007
Great location and beautiful beach with local attractions and good restaurants make this an enjoyable value-for-money holiday stay. Accommodation is accurately described as a shack but has amenities to make for a comfortable holiday with a comfortable bed!

Great location. Excellent enclosed yard for dog. Basic accommodation.
3/5 by Anthony, WA - December 2006
A proper family beach shack, very close to the beach. Not many of this type left as most are being knocked down and replaced by ugly concrete Neo Georgian/Tuscan things. The owner John is very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing stay!!

Excellent (especially for value), easy comunication with owner of shack - all worked out well. Online booking really easy.
